This selection of C. japonica was developed at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia, PA. Seeds were collected from the islands in NW South Korea by Barry Yinger, Sylvester March, Paul Meyer, and Peter Bristol. This cultivar has a very narrow habit with branches angling upwards. The original plant is 11 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The small single flowers are a good scarlet red and the plant has flowered every year, with lustrous foliage.
