Camellia parvilimba

We first saw this very fine-textured species being used as understock in Chengdu Nursery in Sichuan, China, after it had been collected from wild stands in local hills. It is a shrub that grows to about 3' tall, and has perhaps the smallest leaves in the genus. The tiny flowers are white, or flushed with red, and produced in great abundance in the winter season. It has survived two winters in central North Carolina without cold injury.
