(Open-pollinated seedlings) The Painted Buckeye is a rare-to-the-trade southeast native understory tree. Most often it will grow under 20' tall at maturity (potential to 50' in ideal conditions). A favorite of plantsman Michael Dirr, the 4" to 8" long flowers panicles appear in April-May with color being variable, ranging from yellow-green to yellow, pink, red, often on the same inflorescence. It is a lovely specimen that is very easy to grow in part shade with moist well-drained soil. [20'T X 15'W, Zones 6-9]
