Camellia japonica 'Korean Fire'

While working in Korea, Barry Yinger heard about Camellias growing on islands near the border of North and South Korea. He thought these could be very cold-hardy and collected specimens which were distributed and tested. Mr. Yinger made this selection at his garden in central Pennsylvania after temperatures dropped to -23F. The single flowers are red and bloom early in the season. The plant is compact with handsome foliage.
