Camellia sinensis 'Batumi'
Selected from a crop of open-pollinated seedlings, this cultivar's new growth appears dark red before maturing to the same green as it's known parent, 'Black Sea Tea'. Vigorous growth adds colorful interest through the growing season and quickly creates a beautiful hedge.
About C. sinensis 'Black Sea Tea':
Our 'Black Sea Tea' clones come from a plant developed at Russian tea research stations, in what is now the country of Georgia. The tea plantations in the area are on the coast of the Black Sea, which has a similar climate to our own. These plants have similar genetics to 'Sochi', so we expect good vigor and cold hardiness.
