The False Red Agave is a Mexican native, growing quite well in the heat and humidity of the southeast US. The silver-green succulent like leaves are soft and without spines, making this suitable for containers and plantings where people and pets brush against. The 5' tall flower spikes emerge in late spring and are adorned with red dangling flowers, which can attract hummingbirds. This may prove to be hardy in zone 7, with very well drained soil, but we have not yet over wintered it outside. [4'T X 4'W, Zones 8-10]
