Camellia x 'Solstice'
Camellia x 'Solstice'
In an effort to create a yellow Camellia, David's dad, Dr. Clifford Parks crossed C. flava with C. japonica- and thought this seedling is worth introducing. Rose-form double flowers have lovely, light yellow petals. Compared with C. japonica, this plant has narrower, lighter green leaves with a longer leaf tips.
Unfortunately, other seedlings of this parentage don't show much cold tolerance below 15°F, nor do they appear to produce seeds. This was not quite the goal, so work has already begun towards breeding a cold-hardy yellow. A Camellia Forest introduction, 2010.
