We thought that this was the Japanese cultivar that was originally named 'Kishu Tsukasa' before becoming 'Admiral Nimitz'. However, it does not look anything like the 'Admiral Nimitz' (rose red with marbling) that we have. Like the Admiral it has large leaves, but the bloom is a deep pink semi-double with some reticulation. The habit in the pot is vigorous and open, somewhat like 'Fashionata' but more upright. It was one of the earlier bloomers in 2026 and is now about to bloom again in mid-February.
