Cartrema americana

This is known commonly as Wild Olive or Devilwood, a shrub/small tree with a range native to the southeastern US, Mexico and Central America. Cartrema americana is in the olive family. This becomes a small tree with evergreen leaves. At one time this was considered an Osmanthus but it is different in several ways. The flowers appear in the spring and the leaves are spineless.
