Diospyros aff. cathayensis

This is a spiney evergreen to semi-evergreen hardy persimmon with small leaves that keys out to Diospyros cathayensis, the Cathay persimmon, from Southern China.  We are not persimmon experts so we are using "aff" as it has affinity to D. cathayensis. The leaves are reminiscent of Diospyros rhombifolia and it works well in a pot or in the ground and is a favorite for bonsai. Female plants will produce round orange fruits that are quite ornamental.
