Gordlinia grandiflora 'Sweet Tea'

This small tree is the result of a controlled cross between two South East natives: Franklinia alatamaha (male) and Gordonia lasianthus (female). It was developed at NC State University by Thomas Ranney and Paul Fantz of the Department of Horticultural Science in 2023.

It is semi-evergreen with showy white flowers in summer and a mature height of between 20 and 30 feet tall. It was developed for cold hardiness and increased resistance to root diseases, but still take care to site where the soil drains well. Plant in full sun to part shade. Suitable to the 0 to 5 degree F range (zone 7)
