Commonly known as the dwarf palmetto, Sabal minor is a shrub in the palm family that is native to areas in the south-eastern and south-central U.S. and northern parts of Mexico. North Carolina is the northernmost range of this palm. Plant in partial shade to full sun in soil that stays moist and tends toward alkaline. It is tolerant of poorly drained soils and reportedly somewhat drought and salt tolerant once established. Hardy to zone 7 with the proper protection.
